Hubby and I did a tonne of work through the holidays and here's the not so final result. It's done-ish.
I say not too bad on a budget and a time crunch, and with only two people - US! It works and it works well as is, so no need for fancy.
The bottom line is this: Most fitness gadgets are gimmicky junk and a lot of gyms will rip you off in a heartbeat. Yeah, yeah, I own a gym I know, but bare with me...

The truth is, that beginners can get in shape on a budget by keeping things simple. SO save your money especially on expensive machines. The problem here is with motivation. Most folks quit working out altogether within a few months, so if you have a history of not finishing what you started, going all in financially like this is most likely a bad move.
In order to "work out" to a hardcore degree you will need:
Some old clothes, shorts and a t-shirt or tank top (optional). Shirtless works.
Old shoes (optional). Bare foot is fine too.
A will to work. NOT OPTIONAL
You see, all you really need to get started is to DO IT!
It's nice to have stuff, like kettlebells and dumbbells and tracking devices but if you can't afford it, you can carry rocks and sandbags and gallon jugs of water and use a piece of paper to track progress or a measuring tape.
Do not get caught up in the hype of new and shiny. Hard work... DO THAT. That's the secret to long term health and wellness. Do the work and do it everyday. It doesn't have to be hard core training but move everyday in some way.
Here's a Workout you can do at home with 1 kettle-bell.
No kettle-bell? Then a jug of water. A bag with sugar in it. ANYTHING!
All You Need To Get Started:

• A set of basic dumbbells or kettle-bells (optional) Grab a rock or water jug.
• A pull up bar (optional) I show you in this video how to fake a pull up and do a row.

• A pull up bar (optional) I show you in this video how to fake a pull up and do a row.
• A skipping rope (optional) jump in place or high knees
• A decent pair of shoes (optional) go barefoot.
That's it!
• A body - seriously everything above is optional. Body-weight stuff is a great way to start.
That's it!
You're looking at around $200 bucks for the equipment.
Cardio can be handled with just a skipping rope, but go ahead and add in a walk, a jog, a bike ride, or play time with the kids. Play tag for 5 minutes and I guarantee you'll be cardio-ed out!
OK, OK, OK... I have a gym. I own and operate a facility and 100% of my clients show up regularly. YUP, 100%. So yes, I'd love for you to come and buy a membership so that I can keep my doors open but I will not rip folks off and that's why I say, start at home. That's why I have FREE VIDEOS for folks to do just that, start at home.

My point is this: If you are a beginner or someone who can't devote a lot of time or money to working out, it's best to start small and work your way up. Be certain you'll stick with it first before you decide
to spend your hard earned money on yet another gimmick or New Years resolution.
