Weightloss: My Best Advice For The New Years Crowd.
I'm doing you a solid here!
Losing weight is all about trial and error AND learning from your mistakes along the way.
There is no one size fits all plan and without further delay, here’s the one thing I wish someone had told me before I started this whole fitness thing... ready? RELAX.
Seriously. Relax.
Fitness does not only mean being physically fit, but it means being mentally fit? (Fit, is that right? How about mentally stable? Um, no...we'll ponder this one.) If someone is physically fit, but mentally ... um let's just say unwell, he or she will not be able to function to their very best. They may be stressed out, obsessive or self destructive.
Think about it. A person who is truly fit is capable of living life to its fullest. That means Physical and Mentally fit. SO if you're stressing out about food and exercise and find yourself exhausted before you've even started then RELAX and enjoy the ride. By the way, you're in the driver seat and it's your choice to do or not to do anything. Exactly what we teach in FIT U... habits and how to change. I can go on and on but it's just easier to watch a quick video. Check it out here
Another little factoid is that you have time. Lots of time, So, one day, over the many thousands to come, isn't going to ruin it all. You may feel it is but slow down a moment and stop trying to lose 30 years of fat and poor choices in 21 days... that just doesn't work. If it did you wouldn't be in the same boat with the same 10 pounds to bail out. Now would you?
So I am giving you permission to RELAX and SLOW DOWN. Stop trying so darn hard and stop punishing yourself. You're OK just the way you are.
Once I learned that I was good enough. I started to forgive myself for all the stupid shit I did to please others. Oh you know, the starvation diets, the punishing workouts, the self loathing. Gone. All of it. Along with so much wasted time and money on programs made to shame me into whatever "beach" body they told me I was to have. Instead, I focused on me and being the strongest version of ME.
I can't give you the answers. You're going to have to figure out what works for YOU by trial and error. That's how babies learn to walk, birds learn to fly and we learn to be the true versions of US. There are no shortcuts. But I can give you some things to ponder when looking for your FIT. (Yes, that was totally a pun.)
Here's a couple things to mull around in that cranium of yours before you set yourself up for another punishing, way-too-structured, "fix" or "diet" or "plan". SIDE NOTE: Man, that "fix" burns me. Just so you know, you are not broken. the system is broken and honestly, it's built to make you fail.
*You don’t have to live in the gym.
I know it's not the best way to market a business, as I own and operate a gym but it's true. You do not have to spend hours in the gym every day to start seeing results. I definitely would have started doing less earlier on if I knew that moving my body for 30 minutes a day — in my own home and without any equipment — could be just as effective. Its the reason why I make all those AT HOME workouts.
I get that not everyone can get into a facility. Be it from: time constraints, family obligations or lack of transportation. So what's your excuse? Uh, lots of them so stop being a dick! (man I hate that quote. "what's your excuse...grumble, grumble...I digress.) Anyhow, if you need help learning how to train then sure join a quality facility and have them teach you. (cough cough ... Cherry Bomb)
*It’s all in your head.
Weight-loss is 99.9 percent [give or take;)] a change of mind. Sure, eating better and figuring out how to properly exercise is important but it’s a worth a big ol' bag of poop, if you still think you're worthless or unworthy. Drastic change requires a drastic change in your big ol' nogging and your perception of who you are and your worth. Sabotaging yourself with negative self talk will derail you every time.
Fake it till you make it! Start right away with "I AM" _____. Fill in that shit.
I am fit.
I am worthy.
I am a BABS and worth 1 stinking hour of my own time to become the best version of myself! (BABS: bad-ass bitch. A term coined by my 7 PM clients.)
*Losing weight isn’t everything.
Fat loss does not equate happiness.
The next few lines are from our website:
Sexy is not a size.
More on why we wrote that? Refer back to the previous paragraph. Psst... it's all in your head.
*Your goals are always changing.
I've done this. Man have I ever. I set a weight goal and thought that when I reached it I would be happy. Surprise, surprise, I wasn’t. After years of this, I realized I needed to do more than just lose weight. I had to shape my (at the time) post-baby body. My goal was to no longer be less but to be more. To be healthier, stronger and just all around badass! I was tired of feeling like I was never good enough. I started to lift some serious weights and dump the elliptical 8 years ago, and have never looked back.
Honestly I’ll never be done setting goals and nor should you. It’s fun to see ourselves change and grow muscle — and see confidence in the mirror. ;)
