Want great Abs? Yeah, don't we all (Better than crunches)

Here it is.  The one true secret to great abs... ready?

It takes training to increase strength, build endurance and DEVELOP the abdominal muscles, but to SEE the definition in your abs - or any other muscle group for that matter - is almost entirely the result of low body fat levels.  Yup...fat loss.

If you can't see your abs, it's not an issue of “muscle development” at all. It's simply an issue of too much body fat covering up the ab muscles. Sorry.

Personally, I only do ab work a few times a week and it's entirely for the purpose of stability when lifting heavy weights.  I'm looking to protect my spine. So if you're looking for washboard abs you're going to have to look elsewhere because that is a dietary issue not a core stability issue.

A strong core is not synonymous with six-pack abs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you should ditch all of your core exercises but if you’re looking for “quick-fix” exercise program that will get you ripped in a matter of a few weeks by simply performing exercises like crunches, sit ups and planks every day you're going to be very dissappointed. Sure, exercising your midsection will help to build and strengthen your abdominal muscles, but it won’t burn away fat stored around your stomach. It takes way more work to achieve and maintain a six-pack than you think.  It's going to take a dietary change as well.

You've probably heard it before but you cannot spot train.  You're just going to have to reduce your overall body fat percentage to reveal them all mighty abs, which for many people means following an intense exercise routine and a very strict diet.  You up for that?

In conclusion:  ABS = Good.  A strong core prevents back injury, it helps rehabilitate back injury and quite simply, it helps you do things.
A Six pack = pretty but is a whole lot of work for most.

Weigh your options and always ask "why?".
Why is it important to have a six pack?
Is it to look good to others, or is it to keep yourself healthy and safe?

On that note.

This Core WOD comes with a rant about "analysis paralysis" and comparing yourself to others and another set of core exercises way better than any old crunch.

The moves

Supermans
Bird Dogs
Rssian Twist
Plank Walk
Crab Toe Touch

Do any one (or switch between 2) of these movements Tabata Style.  20 sec work/ 10 sec. rest for 4 min.
