Trick Yourself Into Drink More Water Everyday (Not Just Gallons of Coffee)
Man, I'm really REALLY bad at this whole drinking water thing. I have to set a timer to go off every few hours otherwise I'll just chug coffee...mmmm coffee. If this sounds like you, fear not. All beverages can contribute to your fluid requirement – coffee, tea, broth, vegetable juice, and even milk – since they’re primarily water. BUT it really shouldn't be the only source.
So, why drink water?
ONE, YOU WILL DIE! Eventually.
And TWO ...
Water is the “original beverage” – it was the only option up until the time that tea was first consumed as a beverage some 3,000 years ago. Water’s natural, it’s readily available and, unlike many other beverages, water is calorie-free.
So water should be your, first choice.
Water flushes your system, and regulates a healthy digestive tract. Water promotes heart health and a strong circulatory system. Your body is roughly 60% water, and uses up some of your water supply each day. That water has to be replaced.
Practice the following 5 simple tricks to help you drink more water. Lord knows we can't all live on coffee alone. Sigh...time to go fetch me a glass of the H2O.
1 - Make it a HABIT - Start a habit by linking water with some of your most common daily activities. Just hide the water drinking in your everyday morning, bedtime, lunchtime ritual. Example. Have your morning coffee, but add a glass of water in beforehand.
Need another example. O.K. How about having a glass with every meal. This is an easy way to add at least two glasses of water a day to your routine.
2 - Plan for it – Make a goal and stick to it – Write down a specific goal for daily water consumption, the habit-forming part of your brain to increase your water intake. better yet, set out a jug and drink it! Keep fresh water on hand at all times. Keep bottled water at your job, in your vehicle, at home and in your backpack when you are on the go. The more water available, the more likely you are to drink this healthy beverage rather than an unhealthy, sugar-filled and processed alternative.
3 - Buy a really nice water bottle – Don't just head to your local $1 store for this purchase. Find a good-looking, functional, BPA-free water bottle you really like. If you are proud to display your new healthy habit, you are much more likely to stick to it.
4 - Use your phone – Since most folks are attached to their phones via umbilical cords, why not take advantage of them! Set an alarm on your phone every few hours to remind you to keep drinking water throughout the day or if you're a tech head, try downloading an app. Yup, app. It seems there is an application for just about anything. This includes apps like Daily Water, iDrated, Waterlogged and Eight Glasses a Day.
5 - Add healthy natural flavour – Why not pop some blueberries, cucumbers, strawberries, limes or orange slices into your water? When you are done drinking, you enjoy a healthy fruit or vegetable snack. You can also add your favourite herbs for a wonderful aroma while you hydrate yourself naturally.
TIP - Pre-make some flavoured ice cubes and just toss them in some water. As they melt they will release their flavours and their super pretty.
TIP - Make your very own vitamin water by adding the "actual" fruit to your water. No added sugar. No chemical shit storm.
