PREPPING FOR THE CROSSFIT OPEN (4 TIPS & An At Home WOD To Get You Started)
I figured the Crossfit Open is coming why not post an OPEN workout you can do AT HOME!
First, some things to consider when prepping for the Open.
What the heck is the open? Think of it like a world wide tryout. For 5 weeks, for 5 workouts, any and every athlete in the world has the opportunity to participate in an event that is the precursor to Regionals and then the CrossFit Games. The best of the best from around the world compete for top prize and the right to say they are the fittest on earth.
Work The WeaknessDon't bother to work on things you're good at because you are, well...good enough. These aren't the movements that will throw your game. Time to invest a bit of extra work into those movements you don't feel as comfortable with. (AHUM...cough, cough...overhead squats. One of my goats) By moving more efficiently you can avoid both fatigue and injury.
Work Your Conditioning
The CrossFit Open Workouts are mostly high repetition, metabolic conditioning workouts. This means, it's time to focus on your engine and your overall stamina. No time for heavy 1 rep maxes and such. Work more conditioning type training into your WOD's. You'll be thankful you did!
Work On Mobility
Move as safely and efficiently as you can because if you're all stiff and sore going into the Open, your results will be anything but spectacular. Get some extra time on the foam roller and take those active recovery days.
Do Those Past Workouts
How do you get better at something? By doing that thing. Do the past workouts from years gone by. It's a great opportunity to test yourself against your previous performance and see how far you have come and what needs working on! Not only will doing the previous Open workouts get you physically prepared but it will also get you mentally prepared for the intensity and style of workout.

Hey, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. We're not all going to be the next Rich Froning's and Camille Leblanc Bazinet's but we can train as intelligently as they do. They take their rest days, eat well, mobilize and I can only presume, have FUN; all things we should be doing regardless of our goals.
Ultimately, each person is different and requires different strategies so work with your coaches to tease out the methods and strategies that work best for you - the individual. Whether you are looking to hit Regionals, or just wanting to feel better, a good ol' challenge every now and again can be just the thing necessary to light a fire under your butt. The CrossFit Open can be one of those things.
Try this AT HOME workout to get you started.
