"LOSE WEIGHT FAST".  "SHED 10 POUNDS IN 10 DAYS" "MIRACLE BULL CRAP SHAKE TO MELT AWAY THE FAT" I've heard it all.  If ANY of these things worked there wouldn't be an obesity problem, would there?  Heart disease, diabetes and other "lifestyle" diseases wouldn't be at an all time high?  So why oh why are we still being sold this B.S.?

Lose 10 Lbs in 1 or Maybe 2 Months With Smart Training and Nutritious Food Choices!!!

Doesn't really have the same ring as "LOSE 10 LBS IN 1 WEEK."

I'm very sorry to tell you that there isn't a magic pill or miracle diet (read starvation) that will help any one of you keep the weight off.  The "MIRACLE" is hard work and follow through.  That's it.  Follow a PLAN.  ANY PLAN!
...  Blah, blah, blah - new hourse at the gym.  Bigger location to help more people etc....

Here's where the pontificating starts. I just need to fetch my soap box... DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING THAT FAST WEIGHT LOSS IS PERMANENT WEIGHT LOSS. I can not and will NOT sell you that pipe dream.

The key, the magic, the whatever you want to call it, to permanent healthy weight loss is... It's pretty boring... is to lose the diet. Ironic no? Instead think about creating ahealthy eating plan that you could live with and enjoy for life.  Make it something you can do everyday, which is not only healthy but  pleasurable as well. Now couple that with regular exercise.  Effectively, to lose weight, eat less and exercise more. How boring. right?!  Yet how true.
...

Why am I against that kind of diet? So many reasons...

I'll get to those in a bit but I'm going to say this.
I care about how I affect people. I try to admit when I’m wrong. I want to learn from my mistakes and be a better person. So why, Oh why, would I sell you on ALL the B.S. that makes a billion dollars but doesn't work?  I won't do that.  It's immoral.

I deal with my own stuff. I practice imperfectly what I preach and I expect nothing more from you.  Be better than your were yesterday.  That's all I ask.

Back to the question.
Why am I against that kind of diet? So many reasons...

1. Diets don't work! Yes, you lose weight, but since dieting, by definition, is a temporary food plan, it won't work in the long run.

2. Starvation mode.  You've hard the term.  It happens.  The body starts to preserve energy because it thinks it's starving!  Your metabolism slows and suddenly all that restrictive eating has become the norm.  No more weight loss.
3. Fad diets teach you nothing about healthy eating. So, when you're "done" your fad diet, you boomerang back to the unhealthy eating patterns that caused your weight gain in the first place! Do the words "yo-yo dieting," sound familiar?
4. Overly restrictive diets can take all the pleasure out of eating! That just sucks.
5. The diet industry seems to feed on desperation.  Recall my a fore mentioned "magic", "miracle" fat-loss B.S. products.  Look closely at these products and take note that they claim how very effective they will be IF - here's the catch- IF, used simultaneously with a healthy diet and regular exercise program.  Save your money - it's the healthy eating and exercise that are actually the effective ingredients.
Finally, there is this reason:

6. You want to lose weight to finally be happy. Damn, that's sad.  Don’t start by changing what you eat; start by changing how you think. Do the mental work first.
Stop criticizing yourself and love yourself exactly as you are, extra weight and all.
Stop looking in the mirror with a laundry list of complaints and start to value the things that your body can DO, not just what it looked like.

So what does this rant boil down to in the end?  What does it mean for us here at Cherry Bomb Garage Gym?  What does it mean for me?  It means WE HAVE TO BE PART OF THE SOLUTION. No lies.  No gimmicks.  No B.S.  And your part?  You need to be O.K. with who you are. You need to enjoy the life you've been given.  You need to stop hating yourself for no good reason! Your body is extremely capable! It may not always look the way you think it should but everyday be proud of what you can do. Let that pride outshine whatever shame you have for how you think you should look.

So, eat nutritious, real foods, train smart and do the best you can at the time.
It isn’t foolproof, and I still have my moments and bad days. But I no longer let the scale define me.
Ask yourself what makes you a good person?  I can bet it's not the size of your jeans.

So, no more skipping meals or starving yourself, O.K.?

Stop this need to shrink, to become small, to be less and begin to grow. GROW!

Each workout brings me more confidence, connects me to other fit and awesome individuals in my community and helps me appreciate myself for the imperfect, short, yet powerful woman that I am.

Time to put these stupid ideals to rest.  Stop wasting your money.  Stop obsessing. More importantly do what makes you happy.

Be you. Be strong.  Be awesome!
