This was a month full of firsts.

Our 1st Kettlebell seminar, United Way event, Cardboard Boat race, Retro Fit Class AND FINALLY our most exciting 1st...breaking ground on the new facility.  How did I get through the month?  I have no idea!

Don't Wish For It. Work For It.


“Fitness (Destiny) is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”

All these firsts took time out of my life and family to plan, organize, and prioritize during any given day.  None of it came easily but I was motivated and am still motivated to make my gym one of the best (or at least, the most fun) around.

The same holds true for physical fitness.  It takes discipline, not luck. It is planned, organized, and made a priority during any given day. It is a way of life. It feels good. It includes eating food that is nutritious and provides adequate fuel (no starving yourself) to get through a day filled with activity.
And guess what? Physical fitness can be attained at any age and my Retro Fitters are a great example of this. For some of them, perhaps there is a genetic predisposition to be more coordinated, more athletic.  But for most people, fitness comes down to hard work, dedication and a commitment to one’s self.  And that is not to be confused with being selfish.

There were some days when I felt guilty about all the time spent building my company.  Other days, I was just plain pooped.  But you can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good, right?

Even though this month was full, I have learned that success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice and most of all, love for what you are doing, in life and in fitness.

So what does this month hold?

5:30 AM wake up calls because Fit Club, our outdoor kettlebell classes begins next week.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning at Smithfield Park.

Who's idea was it to have a 6:30 AM kettlebell class?  Oh yeah...me.
