6 Reasons Why Kettlebells Are Awesome! (And what size to buy) Part1

I'LL GIVE YOU 3! Then 3 more soon...stay tuned.

Reason #1: They are inexpensive.  No, really!

I wrote on my FaceBook page that some may disagree with this statement. Claiming that a 16 kilogram kettlebell (great starter weight for men) is far too pricy at around $60 dollars. I'm here to tell you that, that is not in fact true when you consider the cost to benefit ratio. This hunk of steel or cast iron will take you through months of training wherein you'll be doing double duty of fatloss and muscle gain. Compare that cost and boredom factor to a rower, bike, barbell, joining a gym, paying for a personal trainer...yeah puts things in perspective doesn't it.

Reason #2 Compact go anywhere torture devices.

Kettlebells are compact. Kettlebells are basically round weights with handles. Try to picture a large cannonball with a handle and you are pretty much picturing a kettlebell. These weights can get pretty heavy but the actual bell doesn't if you buy the pro grade-which I highly recommend if you want to get serious about your training- but more on that in the next post. Now compared to an Olympic bar, or a treadmill or an elliptical, the kettlebell wins every time. Tuck them under the bed, in your closet, or out in the open so that they don't get forgotten - wherever. These little bells are small enough to store pretty much anywhere when you aren't using them.

Reason #3 Fat scorchers.

They burn fat. How is that possible? Ok, whether you're running or lifting, you're using muscles and you muscle babies need feeding and where oh where do you think they are going to get that food? From the cupcake you ate and the fat you then stored? Ok, that's one part of this scenario.  Running requires movement.  Weights require movements.  Yes they do but with the kettlebell the movements performed are mostly compound and that my dears, calls loads of muscles into action, boosting your metabolism during and for hours after your workout. And as an added bonus, unlike traditional cardio the joints don't take a pounding so it can be considered low impact. Tis in turn means you can do these moves at high intensity. So to answer the aforementioned question. How can kettlebells burn fat?  Ha!  Move weights faster!  INTENSITY = FAT BURNING...NAY SCORTCHING!

If you only have a little bit of time and want to experience maximum results, the kettlebell can help get you there. Unlike traditional equipment like barbells and dumbbells, you really don't need to break the bank and buy a whole lot of them.  Buy two or three kettlebells and that should be enough to get you through years of challenging and fun workouts.

Now that those benefits are obvious. You're probably wondering how you too can get a kettlebell and build your beautiful posterior.  Whoa, whoa, there the where must wait. First you need to pick the right size.

I'm going to keep this simple and super generic.

*An average guy can start with 16kg and purchase a set of 16, 20 + 24 kg.
*An average can start with 8kg and purchase a set of 8, 12, 16 kg.

Often our guys aim too high and our gals aim too low. So heed my words - If you’re going to err… do so on a heavier bell. If it DOES turn out to be too heavy for you currently, you can always downgrade to a lighter bell and work your way up to the heavier one when you’re strength and conditioning improves. And it will! Think of it as an investment into your future training. If you buy something too light it will be a waste of money in the long run.

The bell will feel awkward and heavy the first time you try it but if you run out and buy a small bell you'll see, almost overnight, it will become too light. The more you use your tiny bell the better your technique will become the less awkward it will feel, your muscles will begin to fire more efficiently, your strength levels will sore and you will have just wasted your hard-earned cash on a dust-collector. I'm telling you, pick up, minimum, the 8 kg. You'll be pleased. Especially if you know what you're doing because you have been taught by professionals to handle such a weight. You need to learn the basics.  This is a segue into...
