GIVE BACK TO GET (why do I even have this blog? I never use it)

OPEN GYM FOR ALZHEIMER'S BIG NEWS!!!

Keep your eyes peeled for our write up in the paper. Those who live in this itty-bitty community of Lancaster that is.  Guess we were big news! Little gym, big heart and all that. I was disappointed with the turn out but 8 people isn't so bad I suppose.  Next event, I hope to see several more mugs getting their photos in the paper!

So, on to my blurb about not resolving to fail...again.  After all, only 8% of resolutions are successful.

If you want a successful New Year's resolutions, stop being so selfish! Make resolutions to give back, and focus on the activities themselves, rather than whatever crazy and vague outcome you think will be achieved. You might find that helping others is a much more attainable, rewarding goal, and less of a strain than those more common, far-reaching resolutions. You know the ones like lose 50 lbs by summer, save a million dollars. Yeah, stop doing that.  Those resolutions stink and they tend to make you feel terrible about yourself.

Let's get this straight. To say "Volunteer more" isn't going to work because you're sure to break that promise just ike would happenif you said "exercise more". Take that tired idea and transform it into something meaningful — actively join a cause. Say, once a month. Then you're only committing 12 times per year, giving you ample time to work around your schedule and perhaps even exceeding your goals. Who knows?

Now, if you're thinking, "There's no way in hell I'm rolling out of bed on a Saturday morning to work in a animal shelter or serve lunches," don't limit your thinking. We often warp the word "volunteer" to mean "grudgingly help others." Just participate in your community, whatever that means to you.

I'll get you started.

You missed the opportunity to workout FOR FREE on Saturday but I have another opportunity for you to get your exercise at no cost.
