WHEN DOES IT BECOME A JOB? Beware the snake oil sales man.
RANT
Beware the snake oil sales man. Beware those who push Superfoods as a cure all and then offer up baskets of overly priced Organic this or that. Not in itself wrong but doesn't encompass lifestyle and food choices as a whole. Beware those who teach the next gimmicky exercise for an added fee (TRX anyone? I call those rings. No extra fee.) or who's advice on exercise doesn't match the workout they themselves do. I'll get back to this one. INFURIATING!Beware those who focus on buzz words like, THE CORE or LEAN. Or better yet, those who have professional photos of themselves with harsh lighting to highlight their kick-ass abs because ONE: this is their job. It's what they do. TWO: they more than likely posed for that one perfect shot for hours. THREE: They prepped for weeks for those abs and do not look like that year round therefore; not sustainable. They are selling you a lie. FOUR: That is not health and wellness. Those are aesthetic goals - a poor choice. FIVE: They are NOT you and inadvertently they are shaming you. You can not be them and if they tell you that, in any way, then they are not trying to help you. SO move on. They are helping themselves and their careers. Finally, beware complicated diets or workout routines. They are not long term plans. They are a quick fixes. How many times have you heard this. "Oh, the ------ diet has worked for me 5 times!" FIVE TIMES?! That means it didn't work. You had to do and re-do the diet. Paying in how many dollars a pop? So, no. It didn't work.
"Why?" you may ask, should you beware these things. Because, they make money from your failure and that is EVIL. OK maybe not evil but certainly not nice. I'm ranting because I'm annoyed.
To be fair. Most self professed gurus started out wanting to help people. They probably still do but at some point, when they are driving around in their Mercedes or shiny black SUV it becomes a career. That's a long term life choice and teaching someone to fish means - you my dear fisherman, is out of a job! So keep selling your false hope because you now have a job and no longer about helping others? Perhaps I'm too harsh? Perhaps this will be my future? Meh, blah, blah, bitch, bitch, bitch.
Now to tear a hole in the online WOD's or magazines for that matter. The posted workout will show glute bridges and lunges and perhaps a few sets of push-ups one day. Being performed, no doubt, in a bra or shirtless. The next day will have ball roll outs and squats with light weights, sit-ups or planks. Can't forget the core - pfft. You get my point. But these mediocre exercises, in no way, match up to the level of intensity and weights lifted by the people spewing out this crap. I can guarantee that they did not get that way with these workouts. They have to lift serious weigh to get those muscles. The training doesn't often look a bit like what is being sold. YUP SOLD. So I call B.S. It's deceptive and kind of a mean trick to play on us poor fat kids:(
I myself am selling you all. What I do is not any different but I feel my intentions are good. My goal is for you to reach your fullest potential and enjoy a long and healthy life. Loving yourself no matter what shape. No gimmicks, tricks and potions. I'll leave that to those who have forgotten why they started this journey of helping others in the first place. It's just hard work and real food. I can't sell that. It's up to you. My payment is minimal but the joy I get from all of your gains is precious. So thank you and call out any of my B.S. I'll be better for it.
