I'M GONNA SLAP A B*TCH (I'll do CrossFit but I don't want to bulk)

Oh my god!
If I hear that one more time I'm going to have an aneurysm!  Ladies, please understand this... You will not accidentally bulk; ever! We women lack the necessary hormones and natural muscle mass to just suddenly bulk.

To be perfectly clear -women cannot just wander into the gym, eating barely enough food to survive on, yet alone thrive on, pick up some 10, 20, 30 plus pound weights and casually lift said weights for a few months and suddenly be ripped. It just doesn't happen! And quite frankly it's just plain insulting. It took me two years and a sh*t tonne of food and weights to "bulk" and I'm not bulky. Notice how puny my arms are compared to my husband, who's only been working out off and on, over the last year. If it were that easy, then all those young men who lift heavy, eat more food than most teenagers going through a growth spurt and guzzle buckets of protein shakes, would be monstrous.  It's just silly to think that we woman compare.  Silly, I tell you!

Perhaps the term "bulk" is too vague? Maybe I have it all wrong? Could it be that what I consider bulking may not be the same as someone else. I picture a woman who's built like a bulldozer, not bikini model, who by the way lift heavy and have to work really hard at their sport to get show ready.  Yes, sport; therefore an extreme example. These woman work and I do mean work, to achieve something incredible with their body and this isn't going to accidentally happen to you, just like a woman doesn't just win an Olympic medal by accident. Endless training is required. Heck, I know women who think they have "fat" legs, thighs, arms, faces - you name it, when in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. I have been told, "I get really big," but I pretty much just hear that they have lost the "thigh gap" (eww) and can no longer fit into those ultra skinny jeans. Not to mention the 90 lb women who think they need to lose weight. Perhaps it's time to consider the possibility that it may just all be in your head? Maybe?

These ladies on the "real" side are models so don't be fooled.
They are closer to what a woman would look like with hard work.
Here's a far more real woman

Remember this.  Women have far less testosterone, the "male hormone," than men. It is this hormone that enables men to develop large muscles. Therefore, it's really silly - SILLY, to think that a woman is anywhere near as adapted as a man to grow muscle! Women naturally have less muscle mass.
" In the average adult male, the body comprises approximately 43 percent muscle and 15 percent fat. In comparison, the average adult female contains 36 percent muscle and 26 percent fat. Though women have a higher percentage overall of body fat, 15 percent of their body fat is regarded as essential, meaning it is necessary to the healthy functioning of the body."
Again, how is it that a woman will bulk up from weight lifting, when it's pretty darned hard for many men to increase their muscle size when they have more of it to work with? (Did you notice the part about 15% of that fat being essential? Means stop trying to get so damn skinny you fool.  You'll die!)

Female bodybuilders train a frightening amount of hours per week, sometimes twice a day in a way that is conducive to large muscle development. Psst...they also sometimes take steroids.  So, how is it that a woman who only trains 3 or 4 times a week for 20 or so minutes and with an entirely different goal, winds up looking like them? Riddle me that Batman?

I lift heavy; nearly twice my bodyweight sometimes and I'm still praying that the mythical bulk fairy will come along and bestow upon me, the gift of mass. Alas, I am destined to work as hard as heck and to eat mountains of food to achieve what little muscle gain I can.  So please stop telling me that you'd love to workout with me but you're "only looking to lean out,"(rant on that term here in my post Cult of Lean) "but don't want to bulk."  Grrr!

I call B.S.!
