HOW TO SIZE YOUR SPEED ROPE (ah, the double under)

The double under.  Before you can perfect it you really need to have a decent jump rope and it should be the right length.

TIP- Make sure the rope is the right length. When you stand on the middle of the rope with both feet, the handles should reach to just under your arm pits.

Jumping with a rope that is too short will trip you up faster than anything. This video explains exactly how to size your speed rope

Like all skills, you need to practice jump roping if you want to be good at it. It is a great conditioning tool which is why you often see double unders in WOD. How to practice? You'll need a jump rope of course.  Preferably a speed rope.  They vary in cost from $10 to $40 or even $60 dollars.  Mine was a miserly $10 but with shipping and handling and taxes came out top around $14 online from the Treadmill Factory. Once you get the jump rope be sure it's the right length.

Rope skipping is one of the best cardio, fat-burning, leg-shaping, cross-training exercises there is. Almost every major sport utilizes it as an integral part of training due to its ability to enhance agility and foot speed. It will have you burning calories at a speed that can exceed 14 per minute, plus, its ultra portable, doesn't require any expensive equipment and can be done by a 4 year old.
